Standard Issue Voice Recorder · Bureau of Observation Edition

The Observatory has rigid recording protocols: start recording upon arrival, do not stop until leaving, and the first task upon return is to complete the logging form.

• Recording Workflow Card: Arrival / Positioning / Recording / Completion—what to do at each of the four steps (can be adapted to your specific voice recorder model).
• Audio Logging Form: Three columns for Timestamp + Event + Queries; printing and filling it out by hand is fastest.
• A Note of Caution: Do not speak impulsively when you hear something; do not wear headphones during playback.

Target Audience

Journalists, forensic investigators; also applicable for field researchers and oral historians.
