The tomb of Khai Dinh is the most elaborate of the tombs of the last Nguyen emperors, its concrete inlaid with porcelain and glass, nine dragons on the walls.

It is said that the forced labour on the tomb was heavy, and that after it was finished most of the men who built it left no names behind. Khai Dinh himself died less than ten years later.

In the innermost chamber the ceiling is painted with nine dragons and the stone sarcophagus stands in the middle. The caretaker says that room is cool even in summer.
