New Orleans French Quarter · Voodoo Queen’s Cemetery
Share
People still visit the former home and tomb of Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau to “mark an X for a wish”—drawing three Xs on the tomb, making a wish, and then wiping them away.
The century-old mansions of the French Quarter are famous for being “haunted,” and the schedule is packed all night with guided tours holding lanterns.
The local rules are: do not make more than three wishes in the cemetery, and do not approach the river alone at night—the Mississippi River has never returned anything given to it.
