Stonehenge · Stones That Came Two Hundred Kilometres
Share
Geological analysis shows that the bluestones of Stonehenge came from the mountains of Wales, more than two hundred kilometres away; how these stones of many tonnes were moved to the plain there is still no agreement.
Over several centuries it was repeatedly taken down and rebuilt, ending as a circle aligned on the midsummer sunrise. In the burial mounds around it lie people older than the stones.
Touching the stones inside the fence is forbidden. Midsummer night is handled differently — every year people travel a long way just to watch the sunrise through the stone circle from outside the barrier.
