Sukhothai Historical Park · The Buddha That Walks
Share
Sukhothai was the capital of the first Thai kingdom, and the walking Buddha figures in the city are a pose particular to that period: one leg stepping forward, the hem of the robe lifted.
One walking Buddha is said to have been moved several times. Each time it was put back it sat a little off where it had been, and in the end it returned to its original place by itself.
The park office does not allow anyone to spend the night in front of the image. The old monk who keeps the watch says only this: he was walking all along; we are just slow to see it.
