Moscow Metro Line Two · The Line That Is Not on the Map
Share
The Moscow Metro is known as an “underground palace”, but what is better known is the “Line Two” that is not on any map: it is said to run deeper than the public lines, connecting the Kremlin, Vnukovo Airport and several classified facilities, and to have been built for emergency evacuation in Stalin’s time.
Officials have always denied that such a line exists; in the 1990s and the 2000s metro construction crews repeatedly cut into unknown tunnels and structures, and the reports about them were later dropped.
The tradition among metro staff is not to talk about Line Two. They say that those who knew the most are no longer on the trains.
