Bussaco Palace · A Room Waiting for Someone in the Forest
Share
Bussaco Palace was built in the forested hills as the summer residence of Portugal’s last few kings, and was later turned into a hotel. The corridors are covered with tile panels, and old royal and church paintings hang in the rooms.
Guests’ stories have never stopped: someone in old-fashioned clothes knocking along the corridors, someone going through luggage in a room at dawn, lamps going out by themselves. In this hundred-year-old hotel these stories are told as tradition.
The front desk will not bring it up, but will not deny it either. Asked often enough, they say: old houses have old guests.
