Ogrodzieniec Castle · A Ruin on the Eagle’s Nest Rock
Share
Ogrodzieniec Castle was built on a limestone hill and is the largest ruin on Poland’s “Trail of the Eagles’ Nests”. It was destroyed during the Swedish invasion, and broken walls and empty windows have stood there since.
Its best known legend says that the castle’s owner was trapped to death by a mechanism of his own making, and that chains can still be heard at night; others tell of a row of stone figures outside the wall.
Each summer there are knightly tournaments. After the crowd leaves, only the street lamps remain on the hill, and the wind through the window openings.
