Siquijor, the Island of Witches · The Little Bottle That Walks

Siquijor is called the island of witches in the Philippines. Its healers, the mananambal, are in a serious trade: curing illness, driving out evil, and, some say, work of a heavier kind.

They diagnose with herbs, prayers, eggs and candles, and are said to be able to draw a curse laid by another into a small bottle, so that the bottle tips over by itself.

People on the island do not explain this much. They say only that you may come here to buy things, but do not casually ask who can “deal with” a person for you.
