The Diplomat Hotel, Baguio · The Keys Are Still at the Front Desk
Share
The Diplomat Hotel in Baguio began as a Dominican monastery. In the Second World War it became a Japanese post and a place of execution, and after the war it was rebuilt as a hotel. It stands empty now.
A row of empty picture frames hangs in the corridor of the ruin, and the cross on the roof terrace is broken at one corner. The stories say that at night a figure in a white robe is seen at the end of the corridor, or that someone is heard knocking.
Everyone who has been inside says the same thing: it is very quiet, quiet in a way that does not seem like an abandoned building.
