Corregidor Island · The Underground Hospital Is Still Lit

Corregidor Island guards the entrance to Manila Bay. It was bombed again and again in the Second World War, and the last garrison held out in the tunnel hospital until ammunition and food were gone.

The tunnels are open to visitors now, with hospital bays, ammunition stores and passages that run out of sight.

People on the night tours have said that at the hospital section they hear the clatter of instrument trays. Guides as a rule offer no explanation and only hurry everyone on.
