Balete Drive in Quezon City runs between old houses and balete trees whose shade darkens the whole road. It is the best known “ghost road” in the Philippines.

In the stories, if you drive past alone late at night a woman in a white dress appears in the rear-view mirror, sitting on the back seat; if the driver turns round, she is at his ear.

Old drivers have their own practice: do not take strangers into the car, do not use the rear-view mirror along that stretch, and do not brake hard.
