Lofoten Islands · Mountains That Hang Over the Sea
Share
The Lofoten islands are cut apart by narrow straits, the mountains rising straight out of the sea, racks of cod drying in rows along the shore, and in winter the sun shows itself above the water only briefly.
On this water there are sayings about a light that follows the boat and bells under the water; the fishermen put to sea as before, and locals treat such things as part of the weather.
The seasons on the islands differ enormously. What people here often say is: this sea is not scenery, it is what has to be done every day.
