Pudu Prison · The Mural Is Still on the Wall
Share
Pudu Prison in central Kuala Lumpur was built in 1895. Over more than a hundred years it held tens of thousands of people, and it was also where the death sentence was carried out.
The outer wall was covered with a tropical landscape painted by a prisoner. He was gone before he finished it, and the painting is still on the wall.
When the prison was demolished in 2010, only the gate and a short stretch of wall were kept. An old warder said that in the cells they pulled down the keys are still turning in the locks.
