Mahsuri’s Tomb · The Ground the White Blood Ran Over
Share
Mahsuri of Langkawi was falsely accused of adultery. Before her execution she said that her blood would be white, and that if she had been wronged Langkawi would not prosper for seven generations.
It is said that the blood she shed was in fact white, and that Langkawi afterwards suffered repeated war and famine, turning around only through tourism at the end of the twentieth century.
Flowers are still left at her grave. Local people are reluctant to say much about the curse. They ask only: that was said for seven generations — which generation are we counting now?
