Ipoh Old Town · The Dance Hall Above the Empty Shops
Share
Ipoh grew rich on tin. Old Town is left with rows of two-storey shophouses and several empty buildings; by day it is a district of murals and coffee shops.
The old residents tell it this way: on the upper floor of certain empty buildings you can hear dance music at night and the clink of glasses — the echo of the tin-mining owners’ time.
Others simply say that old timber floors expand and contract with the heat. Both explanations have their believers.
