Mexico City · La Llorona

“La Llorona” wails by the river for her drowned children, and it is said that those who see her are cursed with misfortune.

Legend has it that she seeks to have passersby help her find her children, so she will approach lone travelers in the dead of night and ask, “Where are my children?”

The most crucial rule is: no matter what she says, do not answer. For once you respond, you have committed to her request. This legend has been passed down since the colonial era, and people still claim to hear her weeping at night.
