After the Jangseungbaegi Hospital in Seoul’s Dongdaemun district stopped operating, it became one of the best-known abandoned buildings in South Korea.

In the telling it had been a sanatorium, abandoned overnight one winter when the money ran out, with the patients and the nurses disappearing along with the hospital.

People who went in later say the ward at the far end of the third-floor corridor always has its door open a crack; look through, and the beds inside are made.
