Gyeongbokgung · The Court That Never Disperses at Night
Share
Gyeongbokgung was the main palace of the Joseon dynasty. Over several centuries it was burned, dismantled, and rebuilt.
The story told on the steps of the Geunjeongjeon throne hall is that the morning court can be heard at night: the doors shut fast, and under the eaves voices answering one another quietly, as if waiting on a king who is late.
Those who guard the palace say that after long enough you get used to one thing — not the fear of hearing something, but the fear of the day you hear nothing.
