Kunming Shalang Lane · A lane with only one exit

Shalang Lane (also written as Shala Lane) is one of the most famous places in old Kunming for “ghost walls” (getting lost in a loop).

Legend has it that: you walk inside, and despite walking straight ahead the whole time, seven or eight minutes later you find yourself back where you started. The streetlights are on, but the time is wrong.

The method used by old Kunming locals is: take off one shoe and throw it on the ground, wait for it to settle, and then put it back on—to “call back the soul that was left behind.”
