The Village Without Doors · No Doors on the Houses

In Shani Shingnapur the houses have no doors. The bank, the shops and the gold traders stand open. The village says this is the protection of Shani, the god of Saturn: anyone who steals will be punished by himself.

It is said that a man who did not believe this once took something from the temple and was ill for a long time afterwards. The local police register does record zero thefts.

The image in the temple is a black stone with no face, and the oil offered to it is changed several times a day. The priest says: if the doors were closed, the god could not come in.
