Dow Hill · The Forest After School

Dow Hill · The Forest After School

Kurseong in Darjeeling was once called the Queen of the East. Around Dow Hill there are colonial-era schools and abandoned buildings, and in the forest the old bed of a railway line.

The best-known story is that of the “railway boy”: in the forest you meet a boy in a white shirt, he walks with you for a while, and then he is gone. Another version says a woman in the forest pulls at passing trains.

The area around Dow Hill station is still thinly populated. After school the children all walk home in groups.
