The Mount of Olives Cemetery · The First Place to Rise
Share
The Mount of Olives is one of the longest continuously used cemeteries in the world. White headstones cover the slope in tiers, said to number a hundred and fifty thousand.
Jewish tradition holds that the Messiah will enter Jerusalem from here, and that those buried on this slope will be the first to rise. The ground has been reserved for thousands of years.
To be buried here one must join a queue years in advance. The keepers of the graves say no one is willing to trade places.
