The Old City of Jerusalem · Notes in the Cracks of the Wall

The Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem is the one retaining wall left from the Second Temple. Jews pray here and fold written wishes into the cracks between the stones.

Each year these notes are taken out by appointed hands and buried on the Mount of Olives — they may not be destroyed, and may not simply be thrown away.

Below the wall there are separate sections for women and for men. The attendants say that on either side the stone is warm.
