The Abandoned Village of Lifta · A Wedding in the Empty Houses
Share
Lifta is an Arab village in the valley west of Jerusalem. The villagers left after the war of 1948, and the houses have stood empty ever since.
The stone archways and the Arabic writing on the walls are still there, but the houses have been sealed, and the valley is overgrown with fig and cactus.
People nearby say that walking the village at night you can hear singing and drums, as if a celebration were under way. Come closer, and there is only broken wall.
