Malahide Castle · The Skeleton That Was Dug Up
Share
Malahide Castle was held by the same family for more than eight hundred years from the twelfth century. In its grounds stands a tower called the “Ogre’s Tower”, named for a family member known for throwing people from it.
In 1973 a decapitated skeleton was dug up in the garden, thought to be five hundred years old.
The castle now runs guided tours. Every time the guide reaches the skeleton, he adds the same line: we do not know who he was, and we do not know why he is here.
