Tangkuban Perahu · A Boat Built in One Night

From a distance Tangkuban Perahu looks like an upturned boat, and the story told below it is that of Sangkuriang: refused by his mother, he swore to dam a river and build a great ship in a single night in order to marry her.

He failed just before dawn, and kicked the ship over; it landed upside down and became the mountain.

People at the foot of the mountain say the ship is still inside the crater. They regard the mountain as a man who never finished his work, and they have always treated it with care.
