The Coast of the Southern Sea Goddess · Do Not Wear Green to That Shore

Parangtritis, on the south coast of Java, belongs to the Queen of the Southern Sea. She is said to rule the waters to the south, and the sultans of Yogyakarta are said to have an agreement with her.

The rules for going to that coast are well known: do not wear green, which is her colour; do not take sand from the beach; couples should not go. People who ignored this did not come back.

Locals state these rules quite plainly. They say the sea has someone in charge of it.
