Broceliande Forest · The Woods You Do Not Walk Out Of

The forest of Broceliande in Brittany is the forest of Merlin and Viviane in Arthurian legend, and the site of a spring said to make people forget the past.

Merlin is said to have been trapped in these woods by the student he himself taught, using the same magic, and never to have appeared again; others say he only fell asleep.

The forest holds many standing stones and dolmens. The old rule nearby is this: you may crouch to look at the stones, but do not count them, and do not turn back to find the path you have just walked.
