The Mosque of Córdoba · Those Who Work Inside a Church
Share
Inside the Mosque of Córdoba are more than eight hundred columns, and the double arches in red and white run on beyond sight. After the Christians took the city they did not demolish it but planted a Catholic church right in the middle.
The two buildings share one house; the columns are still those columns, and in the middle stand the pulpit and the choir stalls.
Locals say the strangest thing about the building is not the style but the quiet: a thousand columns swallow the sound, and inside, footsteps cannot be heard.
