Spreepark · A Park That Stopped One Day Before Closing

Spreepark in Berlin was built in the East German period as an amusement park, with a roller coaster, dinosaur statues and a theatre. In the 1990s the owner went bankrupt, the park closed, and the rides were left where they stood to rust for more than twenty years.

The paint peeled off the dinosaurs layer by layer, and the park became a landmark ruin of Berlin. Later a buyer took it over and tried to restore and reopen it; the work started and stopped, stopped and started, and sale was discussed again.

Guided tours go in during the day. At night the outline of the roller coaster can be seen beyond the fence — it has not moved in twenty years.
