Okanagan Lake · The Long Thing in the Lake
Share
Okanagan Lake in British Columbia runs more than a hundred kilometres, with mountains and fruit orchards on both shores. Reports of a large water creature have never stopped; locals call it Ogopogo.
The First Nations account is older: a creature in the lake that had to be given animals in sacrifice, so that those crossing the water put a small animal at the bow. Photographs and sightings run from the twentieth century to the present, and not one has been confirmed.
A statue of it stands on the lakeshore, the most popular thing in the city to be photographed beside.
