The Halifax Ghost Ship · Where Did the Whole Crew Go
Share
In 1872 a merchant ship was found on the Atlantic with her cargo of industrial alcohol intact, food and water aboard, the captain’s bed neatly made, the compass and sextant gone, one lifeboat missing, and all ten people on board vanished along with the ship’s papers.
After she was brought into port, several of those who took her on died in turn, and the talk of a “cursed ship” began. Her relics were later given to the maritime museum in Halifax.
The ship was the Mary Celeste. A hundred and fifty years on, the most reasonable explanation is still only a guess.
