Chateau Frontenac · The Old Guest at the End of the Corridor

Chateau Frontenac · The Old Guest at the End of the Corridor

Chateau Frontenac stands on the clifftop at Quebec City, the landmark of the city and a product of the railway age: towers, copper roofs and long corridors joined together, like a castle a person could live in.

Several stories are told here over and over: a gentleman pacing the corridors, a lady waiting in the ballroom, and the “habitual figure” of a statesman who stayed here during the Second World War conferences.

The hotel is open as usual, and the guided tours tell these stories on purpose. The front desk’s way of handling them is this: if a guest says the room is not clean, move them to another one.
