Banff Springs Hotel · The Room That Was Sealed
Share
Banff Springs Hotel stands beside the hot springs in the Rocky Mountains. It is one of the Canadian Pacific Railway’s “castle hotels”: a Scottish baronial front, hundreds of rooms, built to bring guests into the mountains by rail.
The hotel’s most widely told story is room 873. A bride died in that room during her honeymoon, and afterwards the room was permanently closed and its number taken off the corridor. The hotel confirms that the room has long been closed to guests, but does not explain why.
Some guests say they have heard a woman’s laughter outside an unnumbered door. The hotel does not comment.
