No. 81 Chaonei · The Most Haunted House in Beijing

No. 81 Chaonei Street, a Western-style mansion from the Republican era, is known as “Beijing’s Number One Haunted House.”

Legend has it that a concubine of a Kuomintang officer once lived here, and her entire family died mysteriously during the war. Since then, night after night, flashes of light and silhouettes have appeared in the building, and there are even sounds of marching footsteps.

In 2001, when the Beijing subway was being constructed, workers unearthed multiple sets of unidentified human remains nearby. Since then, the stories surrounding this building have grown more intense and increasingly believable.
