Bidyah Mosque · Four Centuries Without a Lamp
Share
The Bidyah Mosque in Fujairah is the oldest surviving mosque in the United Arab Emirates, piled from mud brick and stone, with four uneven domes carried over a single prayer hall and no minaret.
There is no electricity inside. Light comes only through the archways and the small holes in the walls, and the floor is laid with prayer rugs.
The local people say that for several hundred years no one praying here has ever got the direction wrong.
